After much consideration, I've decided to allow a new type of 'Unknown' cache on Opencaching.org.uk

A USB Dead Drop.

Further info on the idea at http://deaddrops.com/

If you decide to go hunting these caches, or indeed you wish to place a USB Dead Drop cache, PLEASE make sure your anti-virus / anti-spyware software programs are up to date.

Time will tell whether or not these caches will prove popular. If they do, then maybe we can organise a special cache type for them.

In addition to the "digital hygiene" question, there is also the cache site permissions question. These devices will need to be attached in a permanent way to a building or structure - so I would suggest that the potential hider should be very careful about getting permission for the cache.

There's a Wiki page here and a suggested Readme.txt and a Logbook.txt to be included in the cache's contents.

OC UK 'Cache Blitz'

OC UK 'Cache Blitz' - Spring 2010 - http://htxt.it/dM5b During the months of April, May, and June, you will have the opportunity to vote on your Opencaching finds using four different criteria. Normally a cache blitz would apply only to caches published during the contest, but as we're a new site ALL OC UK caches are eligible for this contest. After you log your find in the normal way, visit opencaching.org.uk/cb_vote.html and enter the information requested. Find logs entered into the system from 00:00 on April 1st 2010 (No joke ) to 23:59 on 30th June 2010 for finds between those dates/times are eligible, (i.e. Finds within the period, logs also within the period). Shortly after 23:59 on 30th June, I shall tally up the votes, and the winning cache owner in each category will receive a small prize, along with the usual bragging rights. The usual common-sense rules will apply - such as no voting for your own caches, no multiple voting (one find, one vote). The categories are - ++++++++++++++++++++++ Camouflage / Disguise ... How safe from muggles, how much 'fun' was involved in finding the cache once you had got to GZ. Hike ... The journey to the cache. View / Scenery ... the view from, or close to, the cache site. Location or Cache page Interest ... Did you learn from the visit or cache page. +++++++++++++++++++++++ Please feel free to test out the page, the database will be reset at 2010-04-01 00:00:00.
